Most dog owners would love to have a well-trained dog, yet many dogs are not trained very well! Firstly, you should understand that it IS very possible to train your dog, if you understand properly how to do so.

If you’ve already tried and not succeeded as well as you would like, don’t worry, this is not your fault. When you get information that is correct enough and complete enough for you to really understand how dog training works, it will work easily and effectively.

If you might be worried that training your dog is too difficult or time-consuming, then please understand that, like many things in life, it’s only difficult until you learn how to do it right. Once you have all the right information, and understand how dog training works, it is easy and effective to do in practice.

Dogs are naturally pack animals (since they were originally descended from wolves and wild dogs), and have an instinctive need to understand what the leader of the pack (that’s hopefully you, the owner) wants it to do. This is one of the reasons why training your dog is good for both of you.

One the other side of the relationship, when your dog understands what you want, and obeys you when you wish, this makes you happier with your dog, and the dog loves your positive feedback, so again this is better for the both of you.

Another reason is that both you and the dog are happier if you can be sure your dog will behave as you require in social situations. This makes you proud of the dog, the dog proud to get your admiration, and once again, you both win.

Article by WellTrained Dog

Every dog owner wants their dog to do what they want. Let me assure you that a well-behaved dog is certainly something you can achieve, in simple, proven steps.

Even if you’ve tried already to train your dog, and not been as successful as you might wish, don’t blame yourself. There’s lots of misinformation on this subject, and incomplete ideas around.

Don’t worry that it might be too complicated or challenging to train your dog. Once you understand the basics, it’s simple and effective. You just need patience, dedication and some simple tactics and you will teach them successfully. Here are five proven tips on how to train your dogs successfully: 1. To avoid your dog getting confused and so that they can learn to recognize commands easily only one person should be responsible for training the dog initially. If too many people are trying to train the dog at the same time this can stop progress in its tracks. Also make 100% sure you are consistent with the words you use for each command, so it’s easy for your dog to learn what you mean. 2. You should use positive reinforcements. If the dog does something good, you should reward this behavior so that he will know that what he did was right. Dogs love your attention, so giving it positive feedback, praise, and attention will powerfully reinforce its learning.

What you should understand is that they won’t easily understand your commands in just one teaching, it takes repetition to train a dog successfully. Do not scold your dog as he might develop fear which will hinder his learning and willingness to be trained.

If you use treats in order to encourage your dogs, make sure to take them out of the dogs daily food allowance, to keep your dog healthy. 3. Teach commands one at a time. Stay on that one command until your dog shows you that he consistently understands and obeys it, before adding a new command for him to also learn. 4. In giving commands, you should keep your voice cheerful so that the dog will happily follow your commands. Don’t shout or get angry, because he may become frightened and unwilling. 5. Train your dog in various different places. If you keep your dogs in a certain place like your home, he will not be able to adjust to the environment and new people. Take him to the park or through the neighborhood. This will help your dog associate with other dogs and people. Training your dog can sometime be tough, but it will be worth it. Both you and the dog will be much better off when your dog understands what you want him to do.

Article by WellTrained Dog

I’m sure you’d like to have a really well-trained dog, and would like to know how to use clicker training to make that job easy for you. This video will help you with that!

Every dog-owner desires a well-behaved dog. Even if you’ve tried to train your dog in the past and maybe haven’t been as successful as you’d like, don’t worry, it’s not your fault. With all the incorrect and incomplete information out there, it’s understandable. It really IS possible to train your dog as well as you would like, and this video gives you a great way to start towards a well-behaved dog.

The clicker-training method is simple and effective, and has been a genuine revolution in dog training in recent times.

It was first used in training marine mammals (maybe because they naturally make clicking sounds!), and was so effective that it was rapidly taken up by dog trainers too.

One major advantage of clicker training is that that, compared to almost any other method, clicker training gives much quicker feedback on what the dog is doing. Imagine that your dog has just done something you wanted it to do, but is a few yards away from you. It takes some time to run over there and pat the dog, or even to give some verbal praise.

Using a clicker, the feedback to the dog is immediate which makes it far easier for the dog to rapidly learn exactly what you want it to do. That is, after all, how training works!

Additionally, the sound of the clicker sound doesn’t change according to your mood. This is really important, as it makes training the dog very much quicker and easier, instead of confusing it by giving it the same command in many different tones of voice as your mood changes naturally.

How you implement clicker training is you first buy the clicker. Most pet stores will have them these days, or you could find a children’s toy which produces suitable clicks.

Then with your dog, make a click and straight-away give him a treat and give him praise at the same time.

Repeat this often, so the dog associates the click with the reward. Once this association has developed, the click can be used on it’s own, usually without the treat.

The click takes the meaning of “correct” for the dog, so every time you click, the dog knows it’s done what you wanted, at exactly the time of the click. So that’s how clicker training works.

This method can really help you train your dog more rapidly and effectively. Why not give it a try!

The only real dogs are big dogs. Perhaps only a large dog could have made the incredible journey from Scotland to Yorkshire Lassie undertook in “Lassie Come Home.” The original Lassie movie was not only the best Lassie film, but one of the greatest children’s films ever made. It starred a very young Elizabeth Taylor and Roddy McDowall. The faithful and determined Lassie was played by a Rough Collie named Pal. If you are considering buying or adopting a large dog, it is important to research the different dog breeds beforehand. Each dog breed has different characteristics and only the right ones will be the right fit for your family and home.

Labrador Retriever- These wonderful family and sporting dogs can be yellow, black or chocolate in color. Labs are intelligent, versatile and friendly dogs. They are good around children and other dogs. Their coat is not long, but it is a double coat so they require regular grooming. Labs are large and active dogs, so having a yard would be preferable.

German Shepherd- The famous Rin Tin Tin was rescued from WWI France and brought to the US where he starred in many movies. Rin Tin Tin IV later starred in the 1950′s TV series “The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin.” Today this breed is often employed as police, guard and service dogs, though they can also be loyal family dogs. These dogs are big and strong and possess a herding instinct, so good training is essential. This highly trainable and dependable breed requires regular grooming and exercise.

Collie- Rough Collies and Smooth Collies are considered varieties of the same breed in the US and Canada, while in the UK they are considered separate breeds. Other breeds of collie include the medium sized Border Collie, and the Bearded Collie (15th breed below). Smooth Collies have short hair while Rough Collies have a gorgeous, full coat. Today, Rough and Smooth Collies are primarily family and show dogs, unlike their herding ancestors. With training, they can be great with children and other pets. These gentle and intelligent dogs require regular exercise and grooming. The Smooth Collie actually requires more grooming even though it has shorter hair.

Golden Retriever- Like Labs, Goldens are great family dogs, hunting retrievers, and versatile service dogs. Goldens have longer hair, having a beautiful double coat that can be various shades of gold. They require more regular grooming. Highly intelligent, gentle and friendly, this breed is an ideal family pet. These dogs are very good with children and other dogs and pets. This is an active breed that likes companionship and regular exercise. Having a yard is preferable.

Rottweiler- When you hear a ‘ruff’ or ‘bark’ from behind you, be assured it is not a Rottweiler; this breed is only capable of saying ‘woof.’ The thick Rottweiler is not the biggest breed, but it may be the most powerful. These dogs are versatile working dogs and excellent guard dogs. However, this breed has a much calmer demeanor than the Doberman Pinscher. Rottweilers can be family dogs, but good training is essential. These protective dogs require regular exercise, but grooming requirements are minimal.

Doberman Pinscher- Like the Rottweiler, the Doberman usually has a black coat with tan markings. Dobermans also are excellent guard dogs. The muscular Doberman is smaller than the Rottweiler, but is faster and more active. Doberman Pinschers are a very aggressive breed, so being experienced at handling dogs is very important when acquiring one. They are not good around small children and other pets. They are an active breed needing regular exercise and have a high capacity for training. Grooming requirements are minimal.

Boxer- The square-faced Boxer is a solid service and working dog. These dogs are loyal companions and protective, making them good guard dogs. With training, they are good around children and other pets. They like companionship and regular exercise. Only minimal grooming is required. Like all of the previous breeds, having a fenced yard would be preferable. An apartment is possible with daily walks or outdoor exercise.

Saint Bernard- The famous rescue dog of the Swiss Alps, the St. Bernard is one of the biggest breeds by weight. These big dogs are intelligent, loyal and protective, making great family dogs. They are good around children and other pets. Putting up with some drool and regular grooming are downsides. These dogs should be regularly exercised, and having a yard is preferable. St. Bernards should not be placed in hot climates.

Siberian Husky- Siberians are the most popular breed of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. They have great endurance and like to work. These dogs are good around children and large dogs, but not around smaller pets. Siberians need to be in a cool climate and can tolerate extremely cold temperatures. These dogs require regular grooming and exercise. They are not apartment dogs.

Great Dane- The gentle giant is one of the world’s tallest dogs and the world record for dog height belongs to a Great Dane named Gibson. These dogs are often guard dogs, but also make good family pets. With training, these amiable dogs are good around children and other dogs. They need regular exercise and having a yard is essential. Grooming requirements are minimal.

German Shorthaired Pointer- This intelligent and active breed has a coat of liver (brown), or liver and white. These dogs are tireless, versatile gun and hunting dogs. They are good for an active family and do well around children. With training, they can get along with other dogs. The GSP is a loyal watchdog who needs regular exercise and minimal grooming. This is not an apartment dog.

Greyhound- The distinctively shaped Greyhound is the world’s fastest dog breed. These dogs can have coats of almost any color. They are versatile hunting dogs that make good family pets. With training, they do well around children and other dogs. Smaller pets are a bad idea and a fenced yard is a necessity. Greyhounds need regular exercise, but only minimal grooming.

Mastiff- One of the largest dog breeds in the world is the Mastiff. There are many types of Mastiff such as the English Mastiff, Bullmastiff and Tibetan Mastiff. This loyal and protective breed is often used as a guard dog. Despite their massive appearance these dogs are known to be gentle family companions. They are not recommended around small children and other pets. Regular exercise is a good idea, while only minimal grooming is necessary.

English Setter, Irish Setter, Gordon Setter- These handsome and elegant breeds of dog were originally hunting companions. The English and Irish Setters were bird dogs that developed into pointers. The Gordon Setter can be used as a personal bird dog. Today, these dogs make wonderful family pets. The setters require a lot of exercise and attention. They require regular grooming and having a yard is recommended.

Bearded Collie- This long haired, shaggy dog is almost a medium sized dog. This herding breed is related to the Old English Sheepdog. These active and playful dogs make good family pets. They are good around children and other pets. These dogs require regular exercise and grooming. A yard is recommended.

Old English Sheepdog- Their hair has a tendency to cover their eyes. This shaggy dog is larger than the Bearded Collie. These jolly dogs make wonderful family pets. They are affectionate and good around children. They can also be a bit clumsy and may try to herd things. They require regular exercise and grooming as they will shed during the warmer months.

Dog breeding is not as easy as you think. Many pet owners prefer to get purebred dogs these days. Even on the same breeds, breeding lines tend to produce different traits and types of dogs. As you can see, dog breeding is a complex undertaking and without adequate knowledge, you can’t be an effective dog breeder.

Dog breeders should be aware of the breed standards. However, dog breeding is often influenced by the personal likes or dislikes of the breeder when it comes to color, sizes, and types. What dog breed do you prefer? Does it possess its true characteristics? Is the appearance of the dog the same as what the books or other information sources say? What about its temperament? Is the breeding line of your pet healthy? You need to answer these questions before you finally choose a particular dog breed. Answering the questions is also vital should you decide to be involved in the breeding business.

There are a lot of considerations in dog breeding. You should be willing to invest time, effort, and money before you can see the fruits of your labor. Try to answer the questions above and if you can’t, you will need to dig in deeper. You need to research about the different dog breeds, the traits of different bloodlines, the appearance of the dam and sire, grand-dam, and grand-sire in a particular dog pedigree. Do you want to introduce improvements in the dog breed? Do you want to retain certain traits or qualities in the dog breed?

Breeding methods vary whether you’re dealing with inbreeding, out crossing, line breeding, or purebreds. You must be able to gather all the information you need about dog breeding. Keeping yourself well informed will make you a better dog breeder. You can read books on dog breeding or you can do some online research.

Cross breeding is one of the methods of dog breeding. In this method, dogs of different breeds are used. You can’t expect to produce the best dog breeds if you use the cross breeding method. If a problem occurs with regards to the traits of the dogs, you can’t easily track down where the problem came from.

The next method is out breeding. This is a complicated method and only experienced breeders can perform it. If a certain dog breed has a problem or defect, you can make improvements through out breeding. You must have a mate which posses the particular trait that you want to improve. The breed should possess such trait up to that last 3 generations. After the out breeding, the dogs are bred back to the original breeding line. New breeders are not encouraged to do out breeding because this not a good way to start a breeding program especially if you have plans to produce constant breeds with the same soundness and temperament. Educate yourself thoroughly before you consider out breeding.

Line breeding is another method in dog breeding. In this method, closely related dogs are bred to produce the same quality traits, size, and temperaments dog breeds. This method should be performed properly to ensure success. Breeders who want to concentrate mainly in one dog breed should be involved in line breeding.

These are the three dog breeding methods that you should know if you have plans of breeding dogs as a form of hobby or even for business.

Calling them “man’s best friend” may be a cliché, but no description is more apt to describe the relationship of humans with these fascinating creatures. Loyal, smart, protective, fun and playful, dogs have served as man’s ultimate companion since time immemorial.

But did you know that a dog’s loyalty to his master can reach enormous, fascinating levels? Yes, there are dog breeds which are amazingly loyal to their owners.

What other “mosts” are there when it comes to these canines which man has considered to be his best friend since time immemorial? How about the world’s most expensive dog breed? Or the most dangerous? Or you probably are hoping to own a canine breed which is considered to be one of the most fascinating.

Here, we will take a look at the world’s most amazing dog breeds – and describe what is it exactly that makes them so outstanding.

Counting Down the Top 10 Most Amazing Dog Breeds

If you’re thinking of a breed of dog to take care of, it is good to have an idea about what its temperament is, its characteristic and what makes it unique. [Owning a Dog]

To help you out, we will have a countdown of the top 10 most amazing dog breeds – ranging from the most dangerous, loyal, fascinating, popular and expensive breeds that you can buy.

1. Dog Breed: Doberman pinscher

Distinction: One of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world.

With their tall and compact bodies, dark color and alert ears, it is easy to see why the Doberman Pinscher as a dog breed is considered to be one of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world. Simply referred to as Doberman, this canine breed originated from Germany.

Generally, a domesticated Doberman is loyal, intelligent and alert. If you own this dog breed, they will be particularly loyal to you and aggressive towards strangers. They also do not like rivalry with other dogs.

What makes caring for a Doberman pinscher particularly dangerous is when the owners lack guidance, subject them to abuse or if not enough attention is given to them – upon which they can become destructive, dominant and extremely aggressive. [Dog Behavior]

2. Dog Breed: German Shepherd

Distinction: One of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world.

Another German breed of dog which is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the world is the German Shepherd. Unlike the Dobermans, this breed of canine does not have a particularly menacing look because they have a long coat and a generally mild-looking face.

However, they are extremely intelligent, strong and obedient, which is probably the reason why most police and military establishments employ them as guard dogs. Another characteristic of the German Shepherds which makes them particularly dangerous is their aggression towards smaller dog breeds.

3. Dog Breed: Rottweiler

Distinction: One of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world.

Did you know that Rottweiler is also known as Butcher dog? This canine breed ranks third in our list of the most dangerous dog breeds in the world. They are energetic, intelligent and hardy animals.

The thing which makes Rottweiler – and any dog breed for that matter – become dangerous is when they are subject to abuse and neglect. They also become a hazard to the community if they do not have sufficient training when it comes to mingling with humans or other animals.

In addition, Rottweilers are aggressive towards other dogs of the same sex. If you have cats and birds in the house, they might also exhibit aggressive behavior towards them.

4. Dog Breed: Samoyed

Distinction: One of the most expensive dog breeds in the world.

Next, we will take a look at a few of the most expensive dog breeds in the world. This ‘luxury’ dog breed has a price ranging from around ,000 to ,000.

What makes the Samoyed breed particularly expensive is the fact that they are among the ancient dog breeds that have been around for the last three centuries.

There are also a dwindling number of Samoyed dog breeders which is another reason why an owner needs to pay an arm and a leg to call this canine breed his or her best friend.

5. Dog Breed: English Bulldog or British Bulldog

Distinction: One of the most expensive dog breeds in the world.

How would you feel about owning a dog breed which is also owned by the British royals? In the United States in particular, English or British bulldogs are both expensive and popular. This breed of dog is also favored by a lot of men who see the breed as being a symbol of masculinity and tenacity.

If you’re thinking about a breed of dog to buy and you are willing to shell out the money for it, then you might as well go with one of the most popular and expensive dog breeds in the world – the British or English bulldog. A typical English bulldog puppy can cost you anywhere from ,000 to ,000.

6. Dog Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Distinction: One of the most expensive dog breeds in the world.

To cap off our list of the most expensive dog breeds, there is the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel which can cost anywhere from 0 to about ,500 for a puppy. What makes the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel expensive and special is that they are the ultimate definition of a man’s best friend.

When you look at their puppy-dog eyes, their rich coats and their small, compact bodies, it is easy to see why anybody would want to spend a significant amount of money just to be able to own a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. [Adorable Dog Breeds]

7. Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever

Distinction: One of the most popular dog breeds in the world.

Finally, we’ll move on to some of the most popular dog breeds in the world. First, there’s the Labrador Retriever. They are among the world’s most popular dog breeds according to the American Kennel Club because of their friendly demeanor.

If you would like to purchase a dog breed which is great with kids and works as a great solo companion as well, then you can never go wrong by choosing to care for a Labrador Retriever.

8. Dog Breed: Golden Retriever

Distinction: One of the most popular dog breeds in the worlds.

Golden Retrievers rank next to the Labrador Retriever as the most popular dog breeds in the world. This cousin breed is almost synonymous with the dog that almost every average American family has.

What’s so good about this breed of canine is that they are gentle by nature and their temperament is suitable for kids and all members of the family to play with.

Despite their large size, they do have a way with kids which make for the perfect canine friend. Just make sure that you have enough room for them to grow, because they can weigh as much as 90 pounds.

9. Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier

Distinction: One of the most popular dog breeds in the world.

Yorkshire Terrier dogs are small pooches which are also an ideal family dog. Let’s say that you live in an apartment which allows pets – but there isn’t much room for the dogs to move around. Naturally, you would be selecting a breed which is small in nature – and the Yorkshire Terrier is perfect for such a setup.

10. Dog Breed: Dachshunds

Distinction: One of the most popular dog breeds in the world.

This dog breed with a unique name, Dachshund, is also known as wiener dogs. They do have a unique body shape and they are known for their playful and sometimes ferocious nature.

There are different kinds of Dachshunds that you can own – including the long-haired, standard Dachshunds which has a calm demeanor, or the wire-haired Dachshund which has a personality more like the terrier’s.

Now that you already have an idea about the world’s most expensive, dangerous and popular dog breeds, which one are you planning to own?

A pet memorial garden is a beautiful way for a grieving heart to honor a beloved pet and connect to the healing properties of nature. Making a pet garden is easy, fun and joyful. Here are 5 easy steps to make a pet memorial tribute garden.

1. CHOOSE BETWEEN AN INDOOR OR OUTDOOR GARDEN

Outdoor Garden. Small or large, a pet garden should be in a place that brings you joy. Maybe a place that your pet loved to lay down, sleep or play. Or pick a spot where you can sit and contemplate nature and find peace of mind as your garden grows. If you only have a small yard, a planter box, plastic plant container or wooden barrel can serve as the base for your pet memorial garden.

Indoor Garden. If you live in an apartment or condominium you may not have a yard to make a garden, but any place inside your residence with a window and good light can be a great spot to create an indoor pet garden in a basket, bucket or container.

Plant Trees in Memory of Your Pet. If you don’t have the indoor space or outdoor yard to create your own pet memorial garden, a great way to honor your pet’s memory is to make a donation to a non-profit tree planting organization. Such organizations’ mission is to protect nature by planting trees in places designed to enhance our earth. Such organizations will often have projects to plant trees in a pet’s memory. Two non-profit tree planting organizations are Arbor Day Foundation (www.arborday.org) and Tree People (www.treepeople.org) which will plant trees in your pet’s memory.

Before donating to an organization, do appropriate research of the organization’s mission and social and financial integrity. Good resources to review a non-profit organization’s rating are http://www.charitynavigator.org and http://www.guidestar.org.

2. PICK A TREE, PLANT OR FLOWER THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

Pick the right tree for the area you live in to ensure the greatest success for continued growth. An easy way to find out what kinds of trees or plants are native or work well in your area is to ask a local plant nursery. Fruit trees can bring year round joy to your pet memorial garden. In the Spring, the blooming flowers and fruits can connect you to the healing and restorative benefits of nature.

Pick the right flowers that give life to birds, butterflies and other critters for greater happiness. Plants that attract hummingbirds include: Bee Balm, Red Columbine, Rose of Sharon, Trumpet Vine and Trumpet Honeysuckle, and Fuchsia and Silk Tree.

If you have children or other pets be sure to check with your veterinarian or local nursery to find out which plants are harmful and to avoid. A great resource for a list of poisonous plants is the Humane Society of the United States’ website.

3. MAKE YOUR PET MEMORIAL GARDEN UNIQUE

Memorial stones, urns, plaques, tiles, pet flags, or wind chimes are joyful and special features to add beauty to your garden. Hummingbird feeders and bird baths attract nature’s beautiful creatures to be part of your pet memorial garden. Hang your pet’s collar, tag or license from the pet memorial garden tree. Homemade stones and plaques are great activities for children who have lost a beloved pet because they get to express their lasting love for their pet. Paint your memorial stone, plant box or tile with your pet’s name or add special poems or thoughts.

4. INVITE FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS OR LOVED ONES TO HELP MAKE AND SHARE YOUR PET MEMORIAL GARDEN

When your pet dies, it’s important to be supported by friends and loved ones. A great way to bring people together is to invite your friends, fellow pet lovers and your family to make a pet memorial garden. Let them contribute in ways that is comfortable for them. Gathering friends to plant the tree or flowers, paint a bird feeder, memorial stone or wind chime, or read a poem or prayer will bring joy and happiness to your grieving heart. Be sure to take lots of photographs to add to your pet scrapbook.

If you are invited to a pet memorial garden celebration there are many gifts of remembrance you can bring to support your friend or loved one. A poem, prayer, card, flowering plant or memorial stone are a few thoughtful ways support to a grieving heart. If your friend has other pets, fill a small paper bag with dog or cat biscuits and decorate the bag with the pet’s name, stickers or thoughtful prayer or poem to comfort your friend and provide a wonderful gift to the surviving pets who need lots of love too.

5. CELEBRATE THE LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP YOUR PET GAVE YOU

Enjoy your pet memorial garden creation. The more you enjoy nature, be in the outdoors and the see the beauty of what you, your friends and loved ones have created, the more happy you will be. Nurture your garden to nurture your soul and spirit. Add new flowers or personalized keepsakes as time goes one. On the anniversary of your beloved pet’s passing, invite friends to replenish your garden with new flowers and to reflect upon the healing power of nature and the restorative power of friendship.

Little faces haunt this graphic artist as she works in her office at home. As she uses up most of the time at home for various kinds of work, she feels a lack of enthusiasm in what she is doing. Observing her through a screened door are four felines and four canines. Read this site if you want pets portraits information. It was those faces that gave this graphic artist a new career path. She began painting their pictures while she was on her way to Texas to visit her parents. Her portraits are made using colors that reflect the animals’ personalities. She makes it her goal to capture the essence of the animal when she paints. With different colors, I can paint the animal’s personality and looks. It was on a camping trip in Mississippi that she created her first painting, a mixed breed. It was a red dog, and it never left them. Green was the color she decided to use for her dog who was always jealous. This artist may be using nonconventional colors, but she’s not the first one. Inspired by his dog who had already passed away, a cajun artist painted a dog using the color blue. When you would like to get more information on pet paintings from photos check out this site. In her paintings, the blue dog is pretty noticeable. There is a ghostly way in which the artist sees his painting, while others just find the blue dog paintings quite humorous. Many of the paintings are very funny on the surface, but the basis is actually a spiritual one, suggesting, for example, that there is no death but that love and memories perpetuate life, according to the artist’s biography on the official blue dog Web site. The dog, looking at us, makes us aware of questions that we have asked ourselves for ages. She wants to capture the animal’s vitality in her art. Using vibrant shades, she creates unusual patterns which capture the animals’ actions. All the animals she adopted were either from a shelter or were wandering in the streets. Her newest dog, kept leaving a neighbor’s house and wandering to someone else’s house and she finally adopted the dog. By placing colorful fliers in veterinarian offices, she marketed her pet portraits. She asks clients to give her an idea of the animal’s personality and also a photograph. Once she determines the animal’s personality, only then will she pick out the colors to use. These portraits she makes are not just ordinary portraits for the customer’s satisfaction, the owner said. The energy she exhibits was caught in the bright yellow hue used in the portrait. According to the owner of an art gallery in Memphis, when a person recognizes the subject in a portrait, they would be drawn to it. You can look at a portrait, but it’s possible you wouldn’t appreciate the artistic element of it.

So you have decided to get your favourite pet immortalised in pet portrait or oil painting and now you want to prepare your photographs to be submitted to the chosen artist and you are wondering how best to photograph your fine feathered or furry friend.

Paramount to the success of any painting is the foundation work of understanding your subject, so having good reference photos from different angles is keyto achieving a great likeness of your faithful companion.

If you decide to commission an artist remotely located, then you are goingto need a good quality photo of your pet, as artists who work remotely don’thave your pet in real life to sketch from.

So in order to prepare a great shot then there a few tips you should follow, that will set you on the right path. Remember the better the photos you supply the better image the artist is going to have in their mind. Naturally any kind of special personality traits or favourite habits or tricks are also going to prove to be helpful as the painter needs as much information as you can supply to truly capture the spirit of your pet.

Make sure you do not use flash photography unless your pet has dark fur. Camera flash tends to flatten details, so it is best to photograph your pet outside in natural sunlight.

Also make sure your pet is close up for a few shots or head shots so that the facial detail is as clear as possible as well. Just like humans, animals havea different left side of their face when compared to the right side. Differences may be minimal, but this is the sort of important information the artist needs to be aware of, if a good likeness is to be portrayed.

If its a pet portrait you are after then you could do no better than to commission world class oil painter Greg Gillespie. With over 25 years experience in the commercial and fine art worlds, the quality of your pet portrait is going to be second to none. Greg’s paintings are keenly sort after and treasured in private collections around the world.

Article by Marshall Crum

Dogs are wonderful companions. They are always cute when they are puppies and usually they grow up to be great companions that always make you feel special. But, sometimes while growing up, they develop habits that are annoying that make them less than desirable as family members.

Consistent or excessive barking and jumping on people lead the list, especially in areas where people live close together or when traveling. A barking dog can be most annoying in a crowded RV park. Usually, it is not the dog’s fault, but a lack of training. These are habits that can be easily corrected.

The best way to control excessive barking and jumping is with dog obedience training. The problem is that dog training takes time and a lot of patience. Two things that most of us don’t have a lot of. Training a dog is a behavioral change project and requires commitment, time and patience and will not get immediate results. One good source of information for problem dogs is your veterinarian.

There are many products on the market that can provide immediate solutions to control excessive barking. These usually involve ultrasonic devices that attempt to distract the dog or electronic collars that deliver an electric shock or unpleasant spray when the dog barks.

Unfortunately, collars and sprays can also prevent the dog from barking when it should. Product reviews indicate that ultrasonic and spray systems do not work well for most dogs. Probably because they pay no attention to the distraction when their attention is focused on something else. Electronic collars that deliver a shock are more successful and can provide immediate results, but some people object to giving their beloved dog an electric shock.

We teach our dogs learn to jump on people at an early age. As a tiny little puppy, he would come running and jump against your leg, you would pet him or pick him up. At the same time, you were teaching him that it was okay to jump on people. He loved to be picked up and adored the attention and petting and he learned this lesson very quickly and continued it as he grew bigger and stronger. Dogs get excited to when they see new people or someone they haven’t seen for a while and one of the ways they show it is to jump. What is okay for a puppy might not be okay for an adult dog.

How you react to jumping will determine whether or not your dog continues this unwanted behavior. Training takes a strong commitment, consistency and patience in dealing with the problem. You have to make it clear to the dog that jumping on someone is not acceptable. If you don’t take time to correct the behavior, he will feel free to jump whenever he wants to.

Most trainers I have talked to or watched seem to feel that the most effective way to stop unwanted jumping is to ignore him when he jumps. Try not to yell or make any actual correction, just an effort to ignore the behavior. It seems that dogs can understand body language better than the spoken word. So if you turn your back on the dog or ignore him it will have a greater impact than all the yelling in the world. Reward the dog when he does something good, like getting his feet back on the ground when he jumps. You may have to repeat this cycle of ignoring the jump and rewarding him when his feet get on the ground several times and for several days before he finally gets the message and the behavior changes for good.

I know from experience that training a dog can be a frustrating experience. We have had to correct excessive barking, jumping, chewing and digging as well as leash training and just teaching our dogs how to be socially acceptable.

We had problem dogs and I was lost until I found aDog Trainer that had techniques that I could see and hear. I didn’t care about being a certified trainer, I just wanted to stop some unwanted dog behaviors. Click Here to find out what I used to correct unwanted behaviors and training your dog today.
